We never owned a cat before. Just dogs and always had bad
luck with them. We both worked full time and didn't have
the time to spend with a puppy like you should. One spring
evening Pat and I were sitting on our front porch and this
Mother cat appeared for the third night in a row. She had
kittens somewhere you could tell. We fed her again, however
after that third night we never saw her again. We kinda
missed her and always wondered what happened to her and if
the kittens were alright. Pat always had cats growing up on
the farm and said he wouldn't mind having one but had to be
male. I said okay but it had to be jet black.
A few months later, I am sitting at my desk at work. At
the time I worked at a small community farming college.
Stray cats and dogs were always being dropped off back at
the barns. This one particular morning though, the students
had left a few 4 month old kittens in the gym where they had
been the night before. The office staff kept putting them
out but this one particular cat kept making it's way back in.
For some reason, it kept heading towards my office all the time
and hopping up on the filing cabinet by my desk and just looking
at me. I fell in love with this kitty! I called Pat at work
and said I was going to bring it home for the weekend.
He was a little hesitant. I said just for the weekend. If
we didn't like it I would bring it back to the college the
following work day. This cat cuddled up in my lap while I
drove home that night. Then that night after supper Pat was
sitting in the lazy boy chair and the kitty jumped up and
curled up along side of him. Kitty won Pat over big time.
Now, 10 years later, it is still just a long weekend for
our kitty and just another member of the family.
Oh and by the way ~ He is male ~ he is jet black ~ and we
named him "Haji" (pronounced Ha-gee).
Can you guess where the name came from?
The old cartoon "Johnny Quest". His best friend was an East
Indian boy named "Haji"
